Tennis Score: Scoring UX for the umpire’s chair
01[ The brief ]

The challenge.

Chair umpires score professional matches live, in sun glare, under pressure, with every call on show. The smallest friction can break the flow of a match, and a single mis-tap can change a result.

[ The goal ]

Cut every tap, glance and decision to the bare minimum, so umpires score by muscle memory, catch mistakes before they happen and never look away from the point.

02[ What we did ]

Four moves to sell-out.

[ Step 01 / 04 ]
01Design from the court

We sat with ATP umpires to map real match moments, edge cases and pressure points. The same research-first approach we bring to every fan journey.

02Fewer taps, faster action

Big touch targets laid out in match order, with instant feedback on every tap. When the stakes are live, every extra step costs you.

03Mistakes fixed in a second

Clear undo and correction patterns, so an error never stops play. Smooth recovery keeps users moving, whether they are scoring a point or buying a ticket.

04Built to scale

Bold, high-contrast UI that reads in full sun, plus a design system ready for the next officiating tool. One foundation, faster launches.

03[ The results ]

In high-pressure moments, every unnecessary interaction has to go. Preventing and fixing errors matters as much as speed.
